The Artist

Becky Mason is the known creator of Northern Flaree—a passion project born in November 2019 that has since grown into something unexpected. Originally from England, she now calls the breathtaking landscapes of British Columbia, Canada, her home.

Northern Flaree began with a simple yet life-changing gift. As a birthday gift, her boyfriend gave her a woodburning tool he stumbled upon while shopping, knowing her love for creativity. Never hearing of pyrography before, but with some borrowed firewood from a neighbor - and a cup of tea next to her of course, She decided to give it a try—and the rest is history.

Fast forward to today, She is a woodburning artist with over 5 years of experience, featured in Forbes, trusted by prestigious businesses such as the Fairmont and Westin, and proud partner with the Four Seasons Resort Whistler. Her work has extended throughout the Sea to Sky community and beyond, with commissioned pieces sent to clients across seas. Known mostly for her realism, teaching skills and adaptability in projects, She takes pride in creating personalized, meaningful art that tells a story.

In a world that can often feel overwhelming, discovering this craft has been a grounding force. Pyrography isn’t just an art form—it’s a way to connect with others, share stories, and celebrate the beauty of creativity. Thank you for stopping by, and hope you enjoy exploring Northern Flaree!

What Is Pyrography?

Pyrography is the timeless art of burning or scorching designs onto natural surfaces such as wood or leather. By mastering techniques and controlling temperature, you can transform a blank canvas into a striking piece of art.

Often referred to as “woodburning,” this craft offers incredible versatility. From soft basswood to sturdy oak, hard maple, or the distinct grains of pine, each type of wood provides a unique canvas to explore.

What makes pyrography so special is the freedom it gives artists to experiment. There’s no single “right” way to create—every artist and every piece is one of a kind. Whether you're drawn to intricate realism or abstract patterns, the beauty lies in discovering your style and letting your creativity flourish
